LinkedIn Banner: Mobile vs Desktop View

Your LinkedIn banner looks perfect on desktop — then you check your phone and half the text is cut off. Here’s exactly why that happens and how to design banners that survive every screen size.

How Mobile Cropping Works

LinkedIn uses the same 1584 × 396 px image on every device, but the way it displays that image varies dramatically. On desktop, the full banner is visible across the top of your profile. On mobile, LinkedIn crops the image to fit a narrower viewport — slicing off the left and right edges while keeping the vertical center intact.

The result is that any text, logos, or design elements placed near the horizontal edges of your banner will be partially or completely hidden on mobile devices. LinkedIn does not scale the image down to fit — it crops it. This is a critical distinction because it means you cannot simply “shrink” your way out of the problem.

Key insight: LinkedIn crops horizontally on mobile but does not resize. Roughly 15% of each side is removed, leaving a visible area of approximately 1350 × 230 px centered in the original image.

What gets cropped

Desktop vs Mobile Comparison

Understanding the exact differences between views helps you plan your layout before you start designing.

Property Desktop Mobile
Full image size 1584 × 396 px 1584 × 396 px (same file)
Visible area ~100% of width ~85% of width (center crop)
Profile photo position Lower-left quadrant Bottom-center, larger overlap
Aspect ratio displayed 4:1 ~3.4:1 (narrower)
Primary risk Bottom-left text hidden by photo Side text cropped + bottom-center hidden by photo

The practical takeaway is straightforward: design for mobile first, then verify it still looks balanced on desktop. If your banner works within the mobile safe zone, it will work everywhere.

Safe Zone Guidelines

The “safe zone” is the area of your banner guaranteed to be visible on both desktop and mobile, without being obscured by your profile photo. Based on current LinkedIn rendering behavior, the safe zone dimensions are approximately:

Safe zone: ~1350 × 230 px — centered horizontally, positioned in the upper-center of the full 1584 × 396 px canvas.

Practical layout rules

  1. Center your key message. Headlines, taglines, and calls to action should sit within the middle 85% of the canvas width.
  2. Keep text above the midline. The lower third of the banner is where the profile photo overlaps on both desktop and mobile. Avoid placing important text below roughly 260 px from the top.
  3. Use generous padding. Leave at least 120 px of empty space on each side of your text. This accounts for the mobile crop plus natural visual breathing room.
  4. Test at multiple widths. Preview your banner at 1584 px wide (desktop) and ~1350 px wide (mobile simulation) before uploading.

What to avoid

Two Design Style Options

Smart Banner Hub’s Typography Studio Pro gives you two distinct approaches to banner design, each suited to a different personal brand:

Regular Text

Clean, traditional typography with full control over font family, size, weight, color, and spacing. This is the best choice for professionals who want a polished, corporate-friendly banner. You get unlimited text fields, drag-and-drop positioning, and real-time preview — all within the LinkedIn safe zone.

AI-Powered DBSCAN Dot Pattern

A visually distinctive style that transforms your text into a dot-cluster pattern using advanced DBSCAN clustering algorithms. This is a world-first feature exclusive to Smart Banner Hub — no other banner creator offers it. The result is an eye-catching, data-art aesthetic that stands out in a sea of generic LinkedIn banners.

Tip: Both styles are available for all supported platforms, not just LinkedIn. Choose the style that best represents your personal brand — Regular Text for traditional professionalism, DBSCAN for a creative, tech-forward impression.
